Quick guide to Virgin international calling and texting

Calling and texting in another country usually results in extra charges, even if you’re using an eSIM for data. Here’s what to expect with Virgin …

Can I use my Virgin phone internationally?

Virgin phones can be used all over the world in most countries, so you can continue to call and text on your Virgin phone number while you travel internationally.

As a Virgin customer, you may be able to choose between their Roam Sweet Roam option (flat daily rate for calling, texting, and data) or one of their Data Travel Passes (fixed amount of data), or you can pay per call/text and use an eSIM for data instead.

Which Virgin option is best for international travel?

If you plan on making a lot of phone calls and sending a lot of texts while you’re travelling, you probably want to choose the Virgin Roam Sweet Roam plan. Then you’ll pay a flat daily rate for unlimited calling and texting.

If you want to save money and won’t be calling/texting much (remember, iMessage doesn’t count as texting), it will be cheaper to use Virgin’s individual rates for active calls and sent texts. (Received texts are always free, according to their site.)

If I use an eSIM for data, will Virgin charge me for data usage, too?

If you’re using an eSIM for all data usage, you have disabled Data Roaming for your Virgin SIM, and you have opted out of any Virgin roaming plans, they will not charge you data roaming fees.

Whether you have an iPhone, Samsung, or Google Pixel device, we can show you how to keep your phone number available while preventing your Virgin SIM from “roaming” and using data while you travel.

What if I don’t want to use the Virgin Roam Sweet Roam plan?

Once you’ve used Roam Sweet Roam, it will automatically activate during future trips.

So if you’ve used it before, please contact Virgin to have it removed from your account if you plan on using a prepaid eSIM data plan for all mobile data during your trip.

As long as you’re not using the Roam Sweet Roam plan, you will only be charged per call and per text. (You’ll use your eSIM for data, and we’ll help make sure your roaming settings are correct.)
