When do I install my eSIM on my Samsung?
It’s important to install your Samsung eSIM when you have a strong Wi-Fi or data connection to avoid installation errors. (Seriously, crummy airport Wi-Fi isn’t good for this.)
If you’ve bought a Samsung eSIM data package to use on an upcoming international trip, we recommend you install your eSIM while you’re still at home so you can make sure it’s your eSIM is installed correctly before you leave the country. (Did we mention how bad airport Wi-Fi is?)
What if I’m already travelling?
Don’t worry! You can also install your Samsung eSIM when you’re already travelling internationally and you want to begin using eSIM data right away.
Just make sure you have a decent Wi-Fi or data connection while you install your Samsung eSIM (instructions below) so the process isn’t interrupted, since eSIMs can only be installed once.
Will my data package activate as soon as I install my Samsung eSIM?
Nope! If you’ve bought an eSIM data package for another country and you’re installing your eSIM while you’re still at home, your Samsung won’t be able to reach any of those networks, so there’s no risk of your data package activating unless you go into your aloSIM app and activate it manually.
Even if you’ve bought an eSIM data package for the country you’re currently in, your Samsung still isn’t going to automatically activate your eSIM data package. You need to complete the activation steps before it can connect to a supported network.
How to install your Samsung eSIM from aloSIM
Once you’ve purchased a eSIM data package from aloSIM, you’ll install your eSIM (digital SIM card) on your Samsung device so it’s ready when you need it.
It’s recommended to install your eSIM while you have a strong Wi-Fi or data connection, so you can do this while you’re still at home (prior to travelling).
Open aloSIM and choose your eSIM
Open your aloSIM app and log in (or log into your account on your Samsung device by visiting alosim.com). Then choose “My eSIMs” in the bottom menu, select the eSIM you wish to install, and select “Install Your eSIM.”
Log into aloSIM > Select “My eSIMs” > Select the eSIM you want to install > Select “Install your eSIM”
Choose an eSIM installation method
As a Samsung user, you’ll see two eSIM installation methods: QR code and Manual. We recommend “QR Code,” where you’ll share your QR to a nearby device (or take a screenshot, if you have a Samsung Galaxy S22 or newer).
Share or screenshot your QR code (or view these instructions for manual Samsung eSIM installation)
Go to "Settings" then "Connections"
Now it’s time to go into your Samsung device settings and install your eSIM. On your Samsung device, go to “Settings” (try swiping down from the top of the screen and tapping the gear icon) and then select “Connections.”
Go to “Settings” > Select “Connections”
Select "SIM (card) manager"
Your Samsung device has a special section for editing your SIM settings, and it’s either called “SIM manager” or “SIM card manager” depending on your device. This is where you’ll need to go next.
“Settings” > “Connections” > Select “SIM (card) manager”
Select "Add eSIM" or "Add mobile plan"
Now you’re on the SIM (card) manager screen, which will show all of the SIMs associated with your Samsung device. To add your new aloSIM eSIM, you’ll tap “Add eSIM.” (Depending on your device, it might also say “Add mobile plan.”
“Settings” > “Connections” > “SIM (card) manager” > “Add eSIM” or “Add mobile plan”
Scan your QR code off another device
Remember earlier, when you shared your QR code to another device? Well, now’s the time to select “Scan QR code” and scan it! Make sure you’re scanning the QR code using the device that will “own” the eSIM.
Scan your aloSIM QR code (located in your aloSIM app under “My eSIMs” if you select “Install Your eSIM)
ALTERNATIVE: Upload a screenshot of your QR code, or enter your activation code
Having trouble scanning your QR code off another device?
Upload a QR code screenshot: If you have a Samsung Galaxy S22 or newer, tap the photo icon to upload a screenshot of your QR code instead.
Enter an activation code: You can always install your Samsung eSIM using the manual installation method instead.
Approve the aloSIM eSIM installation
If your Samsung device asks you to confirm your aloSIM eSIM installation, tap “Add” or “Continue” to begin the installation process.
Tap “Add” or “Continue” if prompted to approve the installation
Your aloSIM eSIM is now installing
Your screen may update you on the progress as your Samsung device installs your aloSIM eSIM. It should take less than two minutes, but may pause briefly when it hits 100%.
Wait for less than two minutes while your Samsung eSIM installs
Your Samsung eSIM has been installed!
Once your Samsung eSIM from aloSIM has finished installing, you’ll be returned to the “SIM (card) manager” screen and you’ll see your eSIM in the list. Now it’s ready whenever you’re ready to activate your data package.
Your aloSIM eSIM might be automatically called “eSIM 1” or “eSIM 2”
Rename your eSIM (recommended)
Since you might be installed multiple eSIMs for multiple countries or regions, it’s a good idea to rename your eSIM so you can tell them apart. We named this one “aloSIM CAN” so we know it’s a Canada eSIM.
SIM (card) manager > Tap your eSIM > Select “Name” > Rename it
