should I convert to eSIM

To keep it frank—yes, you absolutely should convert to eSIM, and there are countless reasons why!

I’m a frequent traveller and, while I’m open to new experiences, when something is working for me, I tend to stick with it. Such was the case for the physical SIM card.

With every international trip, I’d land in a new country and head straight for the airport wireless kiosk to start the familiar process of finding a local plan, purchasing a tiny plastic SIM card, finding a paperclip to eject the tray, fiddling with removing the current SIM, and then crossing my fingers and hoping I don’t lose it before it’s time to head home.

It wasn’t convenient, but it worked well enough, and I was comfortable enough with the process that I didn’t find it worth exploring other options—no matter how easy and affordable they promised to be. Was I stubborn? Probably. But I reasoned it was better than paying for painful international roaming fees.

Eventually, after a particularly overwhelming trip where I arrived late at night and spent too much time trying to find an open mobile phone store while stumbling clumsily over language barriers, just so I could check in with my family back home, I realized that I didn’t want to waste valuable travel time carrying this anxiety any longer.

I vowed that the next trip I planned, I’d be better equipped to stay connected.

Fast forward to today, and I’m officially an eSIM proselytizer. If you’re on the fence yourself and asking “should I convert to eSIM?”, my response is a very enthusiastic “Yes!” Here’s why.

Changing my mind about eSIM

I first gave eSIM a whirl on a trip to Spain. I had heard about aloSIM, with which you can buy prepaid data plans for dozens of countries and regions (including just Spain, or all of Europe), all without needing a physical card.

Within minutes, I had installed an aloSIM eSIM on my phone, selected a one-week data plan, and connected to a local network—all while at the airport waiting to board my flight. Hold the paperclip.

I was so impressed with the ease and convenience that eSIM is now my go-to option for all international travel.

  • No SIM swapping. Keep your regular number active and add a travel eSIM plan.
  • Instant setup with the aloSIM app. It’s clear and easy to install
  • Cost-effective plans that are prepaid and flexible.
  • Dual SIM capabilities, to run one for work / personal / international travel, side-by-side.
  • Reliable connections with major local carriers for full access while travelling.

Who else loves eSIM?

It’s not just me. Other travellers have made the switch and rave about aloSIM

“We loved the hassle-free connectivity with the eSIM that meant we could instantly check maps and get directions as soon as we crossed a border in Europe.

It really is an incredible set-up. And there is no doubt it has totally transformed what would otherwise be a laboursome and time-consuming alternative of arriving in a new country and purchasing a physical SIM on every crossing. (Imagine that!).” –Away with the Steiners

“[aloSIM gives] you the HUGE luxury of connectivity from the second you arrive at your destination. And that’s a peace of mind this budget backpacker is willing to pay for.” –The Broke Backpacker

So, should you convert to eSIM?

Yes. It’s time to switch. aloSIM gives you freedom, flexibility, and peace of mind that you can stay connected wherever you go. Trust me. You won’t miss the paperclip.
