FIFA volunteer 2026

If you’ve been a fan since playing little league soccer or if you’re just interested in being a part of something unforgettable, here’s the scoop on how you can help bring the tournament to life as a FIFA Volunteer 2026.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup promises to be the biggest football event in history. (And yes, even if you know the sport as soccer, the World Cup is for football.)

Matches are scheduled to be hosted across Canada, the USA, and Mexico. If you want to attend, one of the most exciting ways to join the action—short of scoring a goal yourself—is by becoming a FIFA volunteer. (And yes, Toronto and Vancouver are amongst the host cities, so Canadians — you’re in the game.)

What is the FIFA volunteer programme?

An unthinkably huge operation, the FIFA Volunteer Programme mobilizes thousands of people to lend a hand with everything from hospitality and logistics to language support and media assistance.

Like with other sports, volunteers are the heartbeat of major football tournaments—and FIFA wants passionate and responsible individuals to fill those roles in 2026.

With plans to recruit upwards of 20,000 volunteers across the three North American host countries, FIFA will be offering plenty of opportunities (but also expect competition).

How to apply to be a FIFA volunteer 2026

The application process is open now via the FIFA Volunteer Platform. Here’s how to get in:

1. Create an account.

2. Complete your profile. Include relevant experience, languages, availability, and preferred locations.

3. Choose your host city. (Note that you must live in or near a host city.)

4. Complete required training. FIFA provides both online and in-person training for selected roles.

5. Await confirmation and cross your fingers. If selected, you’ll receive an official invitation to join the team.

Keep in mind that FIFA volunteers are expected to commit to several shifts during the tournament period.

Does FIFA cover travel costs for volunteers?

If you’ve ever volunteered you likely already know this kicker: FIFA does not pay volunteers, nor do they cover travel, lodging, or visa costs. So, if you’re thinking about building in a road trip, you’ll have to foot that bill yourself.

Volunteers are expected to be local to the host city or already planning to be in the area during the tournament.

Those selected will get to enjoy some cool perks, including official uniforms, meals during shifts, and an unforgettable behind-the-scenes experience at a football event for the books.

Where are the volunteer opportunities?

Anyone interested in applying for these opportunities can apply for any of the host cities:

Canada: Toronto, Vancouver

USA: New York/New Jersey, Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Kansas City, Houston, Seattle

Mexico: Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey

Remember, even though competition will undoubtedly be high, each city will still need volunteers for all the different types of roles.

That being said, keep your mind open and jump on the chance to help with anything they offer, including stadium services, fan experience, transportation, media, and more.
