Target, Trader Joe’s, and Joann Fabric, oh my!
There’s not much that we Canadians LOVE more than heading to the good ol’ U.S. of A for a bit of shopping. (Okay, fine … a lot of shopping.)
We can’t help ourselves! There are stores we can only dream of having up in Canada, stores we can’t imagine having in Canada, and stores we used to have in Canada that were brutally removed. (R.I.P. Canadian Target locations.) 😭
Grab your credit card and leave plenty of room for the trip home, because here are a few of our favourite, can’t-miss stops when Canadians travel to the States …
Target
Okay obviously, obviously, Target is at the very top of this list. Canadians love Target. We’re obsessed. The clothes, the beauty products, housewares, and that adorable little Dollar Spot is like Kryptonite.
The Target appeal is doubled when you factor in the profound disappointment that came with the introduction of “Target” to the Canadian market. With inventory sorely lacking compared to its American counterpart, it’s no wonder that Target is a favourite on the list of stores to visit in the U.S.
Trader Joe’s
This grocery store chain has a bit of a cult following — and with good reason. It carries super unique products and their store-brand offerings are second to none.
If you’re stocking up on snacks, why not do so at a place that offers a bit of charm and character in addition to some great tasting grub?
Joann Fabric
For Canadian crafters and DIYer, Joann is a supply mecca. With an extensive selection of fabrics, crafting supplies, home decor items, and so many seasonal decorations (that are often difficult to find in Canada), this store is only improved by its frequent sales and deep-discount coupons.
Hobby Lobby
Another clear favourite for crafty individuals, Canadians can compare Hobby Lobby to Michaels (a similar chain available in Canada). Hobby Lobby offers a huge range of arts and crafts supplies, and home and seasonal decor, making it a go-to destination for Canadians looking to indulge in their creative passions at stores to visit in the U.S.
Dick’s Sporting Goods
Dick’s Sporting Goods is a haven for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. With a sizeable range of products — from running shoes to fishing tackle — it’s a go-to for Canadians looking for quality gear up for sports, fitness, and outdoor activities.
Five Below
Just like the name implies, Five Below is a discount store where everything costs $5 or below. For Canadians looking for inexpensive, fun items like tech gadgets, toys, and quirky, trendy home decor (hello TikTok trends). The store’s unique and ever-changing inventory makes it a fun stop amongst the stores to visit in the US on a shopping trip.
World Market
A global shopping experience with decor, furniture, and food from international and exotic locations, World Market carries inventory sourced from around the world. Canadian shoppers can appreciate the eclectic mix of products and home accessories that can’t be easily found up north.
Ulta Beauty
Ulta Beauty is a beauty blender store to visit in the US as it offers a vast selection of both high-end and drugstore beauty products. From the latest hyped-up cosmetics launches to salon-quality hair care products, Ulta is worth the visit.
Home Goods
Known for its ever-changing selection of home decor, furniture, and kitchenware (usually at low or discounted prices), Home Goods has everything you might need for your home. Canadian shoppers with a handful of stores to visit in the U.S. can find unique items that range from stylish furniture to trendy decorations and more.
