With every autumn comes the New York Marathon and this year is no exception. The anticipation for the race on November 3rd is building with thousands of runners, and just as many spectators, from around the world gearing up for this iconic event. If you’re fortunate enough to be one of them (either pounding the pavement or cheering from the sidelines), you’re in for an incredible autumnal and iconic experience in the Big Apple.

New York Marathon: Race day

For so many competitors, the New York Marathon is so much more than just a race; it’s an incredible way to traverse the heart and soul of the city. Running through all five boroughs of New York is a way to see more than most tourists—and from a unique perspective. Fun fact: it has only been since 1976 that the race route includes all five (Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan). From the vibrant streets of Brooklyn and into the notable shift in energy with a crossing into Queens, or even whizzing past magical Central Park heading towards the finish line, the city comes alive beneath the feet of the droves of runners.

New York Marathon: Post-race

It’s a good thing NYC is a food-lover’s paradise because after that lengthy race, it’s time to refuel. Skip the more touristy spots and opt to indulge in some delicious local classics instead. Make like Spiderman and swing into Joe’s Pizza in Greenwich Village for a slice. Feeling something a little more upscale? Head to the iconic Gramercy Tavern or the three-Michlin-star winning Le Bernardin.

After a celebratory meal, the adventure doesn’t have to stop. Take some time to explore New York at a more leisurely pace. Wander through the towering buildings of the financial district, catch a Broadway show, or stroll along the High Line for a totally different perspective of the city. Now that the marathon is over, the NYC holiday can begin.

For anyone travelling internationally for the New York Marathon, staying connected while in NYC is worth coordinating with your crew. Plan your group cheer routines, share updates on everyone’s race times with friends and family back home, and access NYC maps to find the fastest route for spectators to find the finish line.

Anywhere you roam (without roaming)

If you’re heading to the New York Marathon from Canada (or anywhere else), avoid the hassle and headache (and cost) of international roaming by installing your aloSIM eSIM before you land in New York. It’s as easy as [the big] apple pie to set up (and you don’t even have to fiddle around with swapping out tiny physical SIM cards when you land). Here’s how:

1. Select a data plan for the USA or North America that works best for you and your trip.

2. Install the aloSIM eSIM on your phone in just a couple of taps, from wherever you are now.

3. Take a breath and enjoy seamless connectivity for the entire trip, from the New York Marathon morning to the post-race celebrations, and beyond.
